Will House Of Dragon Appease Fans’ Dissatisfaction After GoT’s Controversial Finale?

HBO’s House of Dragon, a much-anticipated prequel to the famed Game of Thrones series, is set to premiere on August 21, 2022. Set roughly 200 years prior to the events of the original series, the show is adapted from George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel – Fire and Blood.

Similar to the first few seasons of Game of Thrones, the spin-off will feature ten episodes, with new episodes coming out every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max. The show takes place in Westeros, during a time of great political turmoil and will mainly focus on the prime as well as the “beginning of the end” for the House Targaryen and the events that lead to the infamous “Dance of the Dragon”, a gruesome civil war within the Targaryen family.

The Overwhelming Success Of Game Of Throne

Game of Thrones was an international phenomenon and very quickly became one of the most popular fantasy series to ever grace the TV screens. For each season that aired, the show managed to steal the pop-culture spotlight and the attention of the viewers. During the show’s glorious eight-year run, it received critical acclaim, an immensely dedicated and loyal fan base worldwide, and managed to snag 59 Emmys among hundreds of award nominations.

Naturally, such a monumental success and such a fanatical fanbase resulted in the rise in demand for countless Game of Thrones merchandise. From costumes, collectibles, and clothes to Funko Pop!, replicas, house décor, and other memorabilia items, Game of Thrones was plastered everywhere. The clamor for GoT-related entertainment even reached iGaming platforms, where super fans were able to play special online slots. One such game that has managed to become casino royalty is Microgaming’s Game of Thrones slot, which can be found at the 888 casinos.

Big Shoes To Fill

But despite its astronomical success, the final season – aired in the spring of 2019 – left fans of the show and the books in a state of uproar and sparked a fan revolt on social media after it came to an uneasy and controversial conclusion. So it’s safe to say that fans of the original are gearing up to seek retribution through the prequel series. Many fans are hoping they can make up for what they deem to be creative mistakes with the Game of Thrones theory.

Needless to say, GoT reignited the fantasy genre and paved a way for the House of Dragon series, since its popularity has now been extended to the upcoming release. Despite wanting to honor its roots, the House of the Dragon will be taking on a unique approach to its source material. Although, fans of Game of Thrones will be reassured to know that it will still have much in common with the original feud-filled fantasy.

Final Thoughts

It goes without saying that House of Dragon has a lot to live up to and if the pre-release demand is anything to go by it might turn out to be the next big fantasy sensation or may end up being a complete bust – you’ll have to tune in to find out.
