Model and actress Belkys Galvez melts the screen in the hot new Redbox release #EM3. And I spent some time with her!
How did you get the role OF Nikki?
Well, while temporarily living in LA, I was introduced to [director] Jokes [Yanes] by SitoRocks who I worked with on a previous project. He also featured in EM. Jokes asked if I could come in for a reading and I said ‘sure! Teleport me from LA to Miami!’ Haha. I offered to send in a video recording, instead. So I sat in my bathroom, set up my blackberry to record.. two takes later I sent in the video. Abracadabra! I am Nikki!
Did you base the character on anyone you know?
Hmm… I tried to base the character on how I think I would be in her circumstances. I succeeded in most parts and took the leap of faith in others .. like the drug use part hah. I am proud to say that I do not pop pills like they were Advil. Ha Ha. Though I’m pretty black or white, there was a nice connection between who I really am and who Nikki was.
How realistic an interpretation of Miami’s underworld – if you will – is the film?
The hustle in Miami is REAL.. . Just as it is everywhere else. Thanks to my “Super Nanny” parents, I was kept out of that world but I’ve watched peers waste away and ruin their lives all due to drug trafficking and abuse. They hit jackpot with the interpretation.
Jokes Yanes directed the movie. How was he to work with?
Jokes is awesome. Talent means nothing without passion.. He has enough passion to feed the world! Always gave us freedom to develop our characters but held our hand when we needed. Simply Magical <3
Do you have a favorite moment in #EM3?
There are so many different moments it’s hard to pick!! I’ll just say it’s all about Nikki and Raul!! 😉 Or the moment when Marco beats the crap out of Oscar – gasp! – still gives me chills!
You do a lot of modeling, too; what is the first love – modeling or acting?
A.C.T.I.N.G no doubt about it! There’s a voice inside that wants to be heard! Modeling is fun.. My favorite projects have been with Reebok. Fitness and Belkys are one 🙂 but acting awakens a side of me I tend to shy away from in real life. I’m usually quiet… Until you put me In front of a camera! 🙂 but hey! I’m open to all gigs! 🙂 grateful and humbled by all I’ve been able to accomplish.. Maybe luck strikes soon and a hot shot Hollywood agent picks me up ::wishful wishful::
