Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore – Trailer Talk

As a huge fan of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, I remember sitting in the cinema for the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ double bill a couple of years ago. I loved the first film and was excited to re-experience the magic with the sequel ‘The Crimes of Grindlewald’. But I was ultimately disappointed. The sequel delivered none of fun that the 2016 film gave fans and was also a confusing mess. So, my hopes were not high once I heard that the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series will be continuing with a third entry ‘The Secrets of Dumbledore’.

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ continues the adventures of wizard Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne – The Theory of Everything) and Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law – Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow) as they try to stop the evil wizard Grindlewald, this time being played by Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round, Hannibal).

Unfortunately, the trailer hasn’t convinced me to return to the series. Mads Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald and seems like a great recast. However, my biggest issue is the series slowly returning to the staples that Harry Potter fans have come to know: Quidditch, Hogwarts, a prophecy revolving around a young boy wizard. This series is starting to circle round to the Harry Potter series and that’s a shame. I loved the first ‘Fantastic Beasts’ film because it did something different with the property and showed us a side of the wizarding world that fans had never seen before. It also showed fans that the wizarding world was a world, and not just a small number of locations. So, it’s frustrating to see the return of familiar locations and characters in this trailer.

While I hope fans enjoy this entry, I am personally done with the Harry Potter film franchise. What started as something new and unique within the wizarding world is now being reduced to ‘Harry Potter 2.0’ and that’s really unfortunate to see. Hopefully I am proved wrong, and the film does give fans something new, but my hopes are not high.
