Bumblebee Lands No1 Debut On Downloads Only

Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie and Bumblebee in BUMBLEBEE, from Paramount Pictures.

Bumblebee flies into Number 1 on downloads only. The Transformers prequel starring Hailee Steinfeld zooms straight into the top spot in its first week, ahead of previous Number 1 Mary Poppins Returns (2) by more than 5,000 units.

In 1987, Bumblebee is on the run following the Transformers’ defeat by the Decepticons during a war on Cybertron. Sent to protect earth, the robot finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town, transforming into a yellow Volkswagon Beetle. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) discovers him, battle-scarred and broken, and revives him – quickly discovering this is no ordinary VW bug.

Avengers: Infinity War enjoys a second week at Number 3 following the cinematic release of its final chapter Endgame; with Avengers: Assemble and Avengers: Age of Ultron rising to 19 and 20 on this week’s chart.  Last week’s Number 1 Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse creeps down to Number 4.

Bohemian Rhapsody returns to the Top 5 at Number 5, pushing Aquaman down one place to six.

Last week’s highest new entry The Favourite climbs to 7 while Ant-Man And The Wasp buzzes down to Number 8. Mortal Engines earns another week on the chart but drops five places to Number 9.

Thor: Ragnarok feels the benefit of Endgame as it climbs into the Official Film Chart Top 10 for the first time, rounding off the chart at Number 10.

This week’s Official Film Chart online show features a sneak peek of M. Night Shyamalan’s superhero finale Glass, which is available to download and keep from May 13.  Glass connects the worlds of Unbreakable and Split and stars Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy.
