BEST ACTOR:
- Christian Bale (Vice)
- Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born)
- Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate)
- Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)
- Viggo Mortensen (Green Book)
WHO SHOULD WIN: Rami Malek
WHO WILL WIN: Christian Bale
While it could be argued that Bohemian Rhapsody doesn’t warrant a Best Picture nomination, few can dispute that Malek’s outstanding performance as the great Freddie Mercury deserves recognition. It’ll be a close fight between the two, but Bale is an Academy favourite, and it looks like he might just scoop his second Oscar this year.
Snubs: Marcello Fonte (Dogman), Ben Foster (Leave No Trace) and Ethan Hawke (First Reformed).
BEST ACTRESS:
- Yalitza Aparicio (Roma)
- Glenn Close (The Wife)
- Olivia Colman (The Favourite)
- Lady GaGa (A Star Is Born)
- Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?)
WHO SHOULD WIN: Olivia Colman
WHO WILL WIN: Glenn Close
A win for Olivia Colman would be exciting and extremely well-deserved, but it looks like Glenn Close may be on track to win her first Academy Award, having lost 6 times before.
Snubs: Sakura Ando (Shoplifters), Toni Colette (Hereditary), Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Joanna Kulig (Cold War) and Carey Mulligan (Wildlife)
