BEST PICTURE:
- BlacKkKlansman
- Black Panther
- Bohemian Rhapsody
- The Favourite
- Green Book
- Roma
- A Star Is Born
- Vice
WHO SHOULD WIN: Roma
WHO WILL WIN: Green Book
Much has been said about why Roma would be a fantastic Best Picture winner. If a foreign-language film, distributed by Netflix, were to win Best Picture, it could be extremely exciting for the future of the industry. In short, it could be the most important winner in decades. It also happens to be the best film of the year, so it deserves it, too.
While the film has a strong chance, Green Book and A Star Is Born are also in the running, and while it may be the weakest of the three, Green Book just seems to be gathering buzz and it could be the surprise winner on the night.
Snubs: Blindspotting, Eighth Grade, If Beale Street Could Talk, Leave No Trace, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Sorry To Bother You, Widows and You Were Never Really Here.
BEST DIRECTOR:
- Alfonso Cuaron (Roma)
- Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite)
- Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman)
- Adam McKay (Vice)
- Pawel Pawlikowski (Cold War)
WHO SHOULD WIN: Alfonso Cuaron
WHO WILL WIN: Alfonso Cuaron
Cuaron looks set to receive his second Oscar for Best Director, but it wouldn’t be surprising if The Academy surprised everyone and honoured Spike Lee, after the filmmaker finally received his first Oscar nomination.
Snubs: Ari Aster (Hereditary), Debra Granik (Leave No Trace), Barry Jenkins (If Beale Street Could Talk), Lynne Ramsay (You Were Never Really Here) and Boots Riley (Sorry To Bother You).
