Jessica, can you tell us about your acting beginnings?
I first started acting when my modeling agencies would sent me out for auditions for commercials. One of the first commercials I have done was for Conair. The commercials I have done were all about the beauty, makeup, skincare, hair, lifestyle categories. Commercials have allowed me to feel comfortable in front of the camera and gave me a good understanding of angles, lights, camera, etc. Because I was hitting such momentum with booking commercials, I wanted to explore film and TV. I booked union jobs and became part of the Screen Actors Guild. From then on, I knew I have achieved my goals.
As an influencer and a fashion icon, you have over 175k followers on Instagram. Does this helps to promote your acting work as well?
I do think so. I know when I go to auditions sometimes, casting directors ask for your social media handles. I think for any actor, having a social media audience is a good thing.
What are your best projects to date?
I can’t say I favour one over another as each project has taught me something and gave me a different experience. I think a project to date I am pretty happy about is my H&M holiday commercial that has been re-aired this year. Residuals are very fun!
How did acting change your life?
I think there are endless ways of how acting has changed and improved my life. It has allowed connecting with amazing people, it has brought me out of my shell, it has taught me to be on my toes as every day is something different, and lastly, it has allowed me to follow my dream!
