9. Ardal O’Hanlon – Gridlock
In 2007 Tenth Doctor David Tennant parked the TARDIS in “New” New York, encountering a clogged-up metropolis with a major traffic issue. So bad was the congestion that people were living their lives out of floating cars. The gorgeous Gallifreyan soon found an ally in the shape of Thomas Kincade Brannigan and his family, but Brannigan was no ordinary commuter. For starters he liked to dress as a World War I flying ace. Oh and he was a cat!
Behind the whiskery make up lay former Father Ted star Ardal O’Hanlon, whose voice rang a bell with comedy fans up and down the country. He lent the character a fair degree of charm, combining that with the aggravating qualities which made his famous role of Father Dougal McGuire such a legend. In a scenario worthy of Ted himself, the Doctor battled giant crabs in the bowels of the city. Brannigan left happy with his tail in the air, though hasn’t been back through the cat flap of time since.
