5 Celebrity Partnerships That Earn Hollywood’s Charity Hall Of Fame

From the over-the-top, lavish lifestyle of a Kardashian to the antics of Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes, Hollywood can appear to be a place of excessive wealth and self-obsession. However, this stereotype does not cover all of Hollywood. The following stars can restore your faith in humanity with their stories of philanthrophy and selflessness.

Courteney Cox + Joss & Main

Courteney Cox didn’t always imagine having a successful career as a Hollywood actress. The “Cougar Town” star had dreams of being an architect, and her inner designer still resonated as she rose to fame as Monica on “Friends.”

Cox first showcased her eye for sharp interior design when she renovated her Malibu home into a mid-century private retreat overlooking the Pacific Ocean, which Elle Magazine featured on its 2011 cover. Cox also handpicked her favorite home pieces to feature on the upscale home flash sale retailer Joss & Main website. Joss & Main and Cox’s Curate for a Cause collection donated a portion of sales proceeds to Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to funding research and raising awareness about the connective tissue disease threatening the lives of children.

“The Hunger Games” & Jennifer Lawrence + Subway

In anticipation of the 2013 film “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” starring Jennifer Lawrence, SUBWAY restaurants and Lionsgate partnered to support Feeding America, a non-profit nationwide network of 200 food banks. SUBWAY restaurants also released chances to win prizes and a special product line thematically tied to the film franchise. In the words of SUBWAY Director of Marketing Development Michelle Cordial, “The Hunger Games” franchise is hot, and delivering exclusive “Catching Fire” experiences to SUBWAY customers “is something that Hunger Games enthusiasts can’t find anywhere else.”

Ben Affleck + TOMS

Since 2006, TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie has donated more than 10 million pairs of new shoes to children in need with his company’s TOMS Shoes One for One mission. For every pair of shoes purchased, TOMS provides a new pair of shoes for a child in need. TOMS expanded its global philanthropic mission in 2013 by partnering with Oscar-winning director Ben Affleck to support Affleck’s non-profit organization, the Eastern Congo Initiative. The ECI, founded by Affleck, is an advocacy initiative dedicated to the economical and social development of the people of eastern Congo. The product collaboration between TOMS and ECI featured limited-edition Congolese textile-inspired designs. Five dollars from each pair sold helped to fund ECI programs, and a child in need also received new shoes.

Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen + JCPenney

Young Hollywood designers Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen created a limited-edition change purse adorned with a peace sign to benefit Pennies From Heaven, a campaign in support of after-school programs. In 2011, the purse was designed as part of the Olsen’s Olsenboye collection for JCPenney, and all proceeds earned from sales benefited the campaign.

Ashley said in a statement, “every child should have the opportunity to be part of a positive and nurturing environment after school,” reported People magazine. By purchasing an Olsenboye change purse, customers support after-school programs and make an impact on a child’s life, Mary-Kate added.

Chelsea Handler + Give a Damn

What does E! late-night talk show host Chelsea Handler have in common with Jane Lynch, Idina Menzel and Alan Cumming? These Hollywood stars all came together to design limited-edition T-shirts that promote a message of LGBT equality and social acceptance. The philanthropic tees support the Give A Damn Campaign, an initiative that raises equality awareness for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities. Handler’s quippy T-shirt designs include: “Are you there, gay rights? It’s me, Chelsea” and “Love, equality, and penetration for all.” Give A Damn Tees are available at Rockandrolltshirts.com.
