GoT: King Joffrey’s Worst Bits

*SPOILER ALERT*

In the fourth season of Game of Thrones we have seen more gore, more blood and even more shocking deaths,  such as that of the infamous King Joffrey Baratheon (which we all probably secretly hoped would happen). Although we lost him quite early in to the series, the image of his poisoned purple face as he fell to the floor will be imprinted in our brains for a very long time. To celebrate the digital release of Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season, now available to download via Google Play, blinkbox, Amazon Instant Video, Wuaki.TV and  Xbox Video, we are taking a look at Joffrey’s very worst bits; the bad and just plain evil, throughout the epic series that is Game of Thrones.

The execution of Ned Stark

This was a moment every Game of Thrones fan will remember; the execution of Eddard Stark (Sean Bean). It also signalled to all viewers the fact that in Game of Thrones, no one is safe, with most people hoping to see the popular Lord of Winterfell kept alive. But despite the fact that Stark humbled himself and accepted Joffrey’s rule of punishment, the evil King pulls a last-minute change-up, and orders Stark beheaded, which probably wasn’t the best thing to give his intended, Sansa Stark as a wedding gift.

Forcing Sansa Stark to stare at her father’s decapitated head

After having her father publicly beheaded, we didn’t think Joffrey’s behaviour could get much worse. However, he proved us wrong when he invited his betrothed, Sansa Stark to view a rather gruesome display of decapitated heads, amongst these, was her father Ned Stark displayed on a pike. “Your fingers or your tongue?”

This question was posed to a tavern bard who decided to write a song about the death of King Robert Baratheon, it was not a tasteful number to say the least. Joffrey demanded an encore performance in court, and asked the man if he would prefer keeping his tongue or his hands. After he decided he would rather have his fingers, Joffrey commanded the bard’s tongue to be slashed.

Forcing Ser Dontos to drink…a lot

It was Joffrey’s “Name Day” and a reason for him to provide some ‘light fighting’ as entertainment for his people. Ser Dontos, the only surviving member of House of Hollard was unluckily chosen to fight, but his drunken behaviour left Joffrey quite unimpressed and rather insulted. As a punishment, Joffrey decided to give Ser Dontas more of what he wanted, wine. But we’re not talking one or two glasses, Joffrey ordered for Ser Dontas to have wine poured in to his stomach until he burst.

Torturing and murdering prostitutes

In true Tyrion style, he sent two prostitutes to Joffrey’s bed chamber on his name-day for some entertainment. However, instead of providing Joffrey with the obvious entertainment, they were forced to torture each other with a belt and a spiked mace. And if that wasn’t bad enough, later on in the series, Kings Landings leading prostitute, Ros, was used as Joffrey’s cross bow target.

Fleeing the battle of Black Water

As the Battle of Black Water commenced, Joffrey stood behind the scenes in his untouched armour and a smirk of false confidence on his face. As his enemies began to break down the gates, he stood cowardly behind closed doors and let his people fight without a king.

The Death of Joffrey Baratheon

And finally, the day Joffrey’s evil ways quite quickly and painfully came to an end. Who was clever enough to kill him and get away with it (for now) is still a mystery. Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season continues to prove that no one is safe.
