US Mother’s Day…

If those multi-million dollar box office openings are any clue, Americans love spending their time at the movies. And why wouldn’t they? Not only can you escape reality for a few hours with each ticket stub, but it can also be a good source of bonding time. This year, in addition to the Mothers Day flowers, grab your mom and a big tub of popcorn for an evening of bonding via the silver screen.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

This tale of a New Orleans man born old and getting younger each day is the perfect pick for mom. The movie follows the life of Benjamin Button, played by Brad Pitt, through life as he experiences it through a reverse perspective. With a bit of romance and a lot of heart, it’s both heartwarming and heartbreaking – much like motherhood.

Terms of Endearment

Think you and your mom have it tough? Aurora and Emma will have you bonding over a box of tissues as the comedy-drama film explores the ups and downs of the love-hate mother/daughter relationship. The story follows both through several years as each searches for happiness. They story has it all: love, loss, infidelity and illness.

Little Miss Sunshine

If your mom longs for the days of family sing-alongs and road trip games, bring her back to reality with a road trip adventure with the dysfunctional Hoover family. The comical errors the family encounters (and brings upon themselves) as they journey from Albuquerque to California to enter seven-year-old Olive into the Little Miss Sunshine pageant provide feel-good comedic relief that, no matter how bad it seems, reminds you that, at least you aren’t as crazy as the Hoovers.

Kill Bill

What, you don’t see how violence can be a good Mother’s Day pick? Well, if anything shows the power of a determined woman, it’s Kill Bill. What begins as a saga of pure revenge — of a woman left for dead by her lover and friends — becomes so much more. This Quentin Tarantino film may be the most violent custody battle to hit the big screen.

Freaky Friday

Silence those ”my life is harder than yours” arguments by settling in for an evening viewing of Freaky Friday and not leaving the couch until the credits roll. The 1977 version, starring Jodie Foster, is great for nostalgia, but watching a young (and pre-rehabbed) Lindsay Lohan trying to act like an adult is a magical experience best shared with mom. This fun film throws everything off balance when mother, Tess, and daughter, Anna, are trapped in each other’s body. The two must, literally, walk in each other’s shoes until they can find a way to switch back.
