With a host of great movies due for release this year, here’s the lowdown on the latest Superman spin-off Man of Steel.
If, when you see the name Michael Nolan (Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception) as producer, you get the feeling that Superman is about to be brought into the 21st century on a par with recent batman movies – you’d be right. ‘Relatable and realistic,’ says writer David S, Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins).
As soon as the trailer asks the question, ‘what kind of man do you want to grow up to be Clark?’ you’re surmising that the latest addition to the Superman franchise is going to be much darker and involve much more soul searching than its predecessors.
A star-studded cast includes Henry Cavill (Clark Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) Laurence Fishbourne (Perry White), Michael Shannon (General Zod) and Russel Crowe (Jor-El); and its strength suggests that Warner Brothers are hoping this will be the first of many in a reboot of the character Christopher Reeve made famous in the 70’s and 80’s.
Whilst the story typically transcends from Clark landing on Earth after escaping his dying home planet Krypton, wrestling with coming to terms with his superpowers during childhood and becoming a reserved journalist with the Daily Planet, the trailer promises so much more. In fact Goyer says, ‘The trailer’s just the tiniest, tiniest tip of the iceberg.’ However, both Nolan and Goyer (and everybody else for that matter) are keeping the film’s plot completely under wraps, which makes it all the more intriguing.
So, with no real prequel to re-watch, why not let LOVEFiLM assist you with a trip down Nostalgia Lane to watch those old 70’s and 80’s Christopher Reeve classics, which you can then compare the new one against.
