Material, which took the South African box office by storm this year, becoming the most successful English-speaking film in SA for 33 years, is set to make its infectious comedic impression on London audiences when it premieres at the 56th BFI London Film Festival.

Set in Johannesburg, the film stars Riaad Moosa as Cassim, a dutiful Muslim son who works alongside his traditionalist father (played by Vincent Ebrahim) in the declining family-run textile store. However, Cassim is secretly honing his skills as a stand-up comic. This is definitely not the kind of material Cassim should be working with and when his father finds out suddenly life isn’’t a funny business anymore….
