THEY’RE BACK! BUT FOR BETTER OR WORSE?

HUNG – Season 3

Oh thank you sweet Jesus for HBO and thank you for ‘Hung’. Yes, ‘Hung’ is abut sex, but sex in it’s deepest and truest sense. It’s how sex effects different people, how sex can change people’s lives in the best and the worst ways, how sexuality is rarely black and white, and ultimately, everyone wants and need sex. Thomas Jane and Jane Adams form one of the best leads pairs on television at the moment. It’s witty, it’s fun, it’s dramatic, and it’s very enjoyable. While you might miss some of the back story, Season 3 is heading the pair into a fresh and new direction and really is a great starting point for new comers to jump on, but I do recommend watching the first 2 Seasons highly. ‘Hung’ is one sexy show and boy, am I glad it’s back.

THEY'RE BACK! BUT FOR BETTER OR WORSE?BROADWALK EMPIRE – Season 2
Did I mention I love HBO? This has to be one of the most thrilling, visually stunning, powerfully written, and wonderfully performed shows to grace the TV in a long time. Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, and Michael Shannon own this series, every inch of them commands attention. Season 2 has already begun with a bang and my heart is racing for more, however this is not a good show to simply jump onto to. You really do need to go back and watch Season 1 completely. Lucky for you, ‘Broadwalk Empire’ is amazing.

THE BIG BANG THEORY – Season 5
‘The Big Bang Theory’ is not a great show, don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty good, but when theirs new great shows on and ever better ones returning, I am afraid ‘The Big Bang Theory’ will have to wait. The jokes are only funny these days because you know and love the characters, and if you don’t, why bother? By Season 5, you’re either into it or not. I am into it, but it will be a DVD-Weekend Session for me before I reconnect with ‘The Big Bang Theory’ boys and girls. Sorry gang.

CASTLE – Season 4

‘Castle’ is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. The show at it’s core is ridiculous, but it’s the sort of ridiculous that you really sit back and enjoy. The biggest source of entertainment comes from the interplay between Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, as well as the other supporting cast. However it’s just not gripping. The ‘Moonlighting’ sexual tension of “will they or won’t they” does strain fairly quickly for mass viewing, but if it’s on and I have nothing else to do, ‘Castle’ is a good choice.

COMMUNITY – Season 3
Plain and simple, ‘Community’ is the best show on television and this season introduces John Goodman as a semi-series regular, so it’s only just going to get better. The meta-humour is dying down and the characters are as fun and funny as ever. Yet, this Season marks a change of pace for ‘Community’. Series creator Dan Harmon has commented that this Season will be more focused on developing the characters more then the last two Seasons. These episodes are going to be more grounded and character focused, which I think is the best direction for this perfect series. Of course, I am looking forward to seeing this Season’s specials!

DEXTER – Season 6
‘Dexter’ is a show that’s appeal I understand, yet do not fully engage. Michael C. Hall is amazing, and I have been a huge fan of his since his ‘Six Feet Under’ days and I do love Jennifer Carpenter’s portrayal of her sister. Yet for me the recipe is getting a little overdone. Find a bad person, try and kill them, something goes wrong, and Dexter has try and fix it while trying to get away with murder. Each season a new rival killer emerges and Dexter has to battle wits with them. It’s fun and it’s entertaining, but it’s just not for me at the moment.

GLEE – Season 3
You honestly love it or you hate it. I thought I would be fair and even submit myself to watching this Season’s new starting point to process the idea that it had become something I would find worth watching… It hasn’t. However it is clean that ‘Glee”s direction is somewhat changing and I will admit that the issue of the Arts in Schools with the American Economy tanking is a real issue. Hell, even around the world. If a school’s budget is weak, it’s the arts that go first and as a form High School Student who was on the artistic side of things, that’s a problem. Yet… It’s still ‘Glee’ and it still has everything I hate about ‘Glee’ in it. So if you love ‘Glee’ you will probably love it even more this Season, if not, then I am amazed you took the time to read my review of it!

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER – Season 7
I think it’s fair to say that ‘How I Met Your Mother’’s overall plot is becoming more complicated then ‘War and Peace’. There are so many visual clues to follow, so many hints to keep track of, and so many winks to focus on that it can be a little mind thumbing at times. Yet, the comedy is still right and it’s still one of the best shows around. The wit, the humour, the candor, and the character-play is just magical However, I think it’s safe to say the end is in sight for ‘How I Met Your Mother’, yet, that might just be hopeful thinking on my part. They are focusing a little more in depth on the characters to be sure, and some of them are heading for big changes. I think this is going to be a fun but enlightening Season.

TWO AND A HALF MEN – Season 9
I gave up on ‘Two and a Half Men’ a long time ago, but with the departure of Charlie Sheen and the arrival of Ashton Kutcher, I must admit, I was curious to see what this new story and character would bring. Sadly, as I expected, not much at all. So far the story is nothing but Kutcher worship. References to how ‘handsome’ he is, his apparently well endowment, lots of shirtless scenes, and lots of men being jealous of him. It’s still not material worth watching.
