James Cameron’s Oscar-nominated blockbuster was the big winner at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday after scoring nominations in 11 categories.
The film scooped six awards including the prize for Best Single Visual Effect of the Year and Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature. Cameron was also presented with the VES Lifetime Achievement Award during the ceremony.
Sherlock Holmes, Up and District 9 also won trophies at the event.
Meanwhile, German drama The White Ribbon took the top honour at the American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards on Saturday.
Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman received the Board of Governors Award, while Actresses Emily and Zooey Deschanel presented their father, Caleb Deschanel, with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
