    Studio 666: Trailer Talk

What happens when you mix ‘Deathgasm’ and ‘Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny’ with Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’? The film industry gets ‘Studio 666’.

‘Studio 666’ stars rock band the Foo Fighters as they move into an isolated mansion to record their next album. But the band quickly come to realize that the building is haunted, and their lead singer is possessed by supernatural forces.

This was a trailer that appeared out of nowhere but has definitely made a great first impression. The trailer wastes no time in getting into the focal plot and knows what type of tone it’s going for, which is a goofy and fun atmosphere, much like Tenacious D’s 2006 film.

And the band members all appear to be having fun in this chaotic film about a demonic rock singer. Lead singer Dave Grohl specifically takes on the role, as a Jack Torrence-esque character, comfortably, as someone who is pressured to make a new album but has no ideas to then becoming possessed by the mansion’s demons.

‘Studio 666’ looks like a lot of chaotic fun, and the influences are clear. It also looks like it could have some good humour to it too. It was a film that was unexpected but definitely welcomed.

    Moon Knight: Trailer Talk.

In November, one of my Trailer Talk articles covered Disney+ Day, a day where future projects for the streaming platform were announced. Included in this was a teaser trailer for ‘Moon Knight’ starring Oscar Isaac as the lead character. At the time, I thought it looked unique, but a full-length trailer was needed to fully understand the new property and form a solid opinion on the series, especially since this was an unfamiliar character. But now that the first trailer is out, Marvel fans can finally get more information on the Disney+ series.

And ‘Moon Knight’ looks incredible and definitely embraces its chaos! The visuals look impressive but manic. And, because the lead character has issues with recognizing reality from fiction, I hope this series contains a lot of confusing sequences that will enthesis this. Furthermore, the backing track chosen (‘Day ‘N’ Night’ by Kid Cudi) was perfect for the trailer.

Oscar Isaac is a great casting choice for this property. Not only is he a fantastic actor, but it’s great to see him working with another iconic company and introduce a unique character. The trailer also reveals Moon Knight’s costume, which looks terrifying. With the release of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and ‘Moon Knight’, it looks like Marvel is starting to venture more into the horror genre, something that I welcome.

Despite not knowing the property, ‘Moon Knight’ looks chaotic and incredible. Oscar Isaac was the perfect casting choice for the role, and the lead character’s costume looks amazing and terrifying. Plus, fans won’t have long left to wait: ‘Moon Knight’ will come to Disney+ in March!

After Marvel’s recent projects, and the upcoming ‘The Flash’ movie, it’s clear what the superhero genre is now focusing on: multiverses. However, distributor A24 and director/writers Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (‘Swiss Army Man’, ‘Turn Down For What’ music video) have found a new way to execute the idea of the multiverse in media.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ follows Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Star Trek: Discovery), a seemingly normal worker who discovers that she can suddenly access multiple versions of herself via their memories and skills. With this newfound power, she must stop an evil force before it’s too late.

While this trailer was released last month, this is one that deserves a lot of attention. In an industry that is focusing on multiverses and sticking to the same formula in terms of its execution, this film decides to break away from the comic book genre and try something different, which is admirable. And because Evelyn can access her other versions and pick up their skills, it opens up the possibility of incorporating different worlds and even genres into the film; a snippet shown near the end gives a glimpse into an anime version!

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ shows that the multiverse idea can be executed in a unique way. Furthermore, it opens up the possibility of multiple genres being incorporated into the film. As well as talking about the latest blockbuster trailers, this feature can also be used to highlight films that fell under the radar, and this seems to be one of them. The film is released 25th March and I would recommend checking out the trailer, especially if you are a fan of multiverse stories.

Halo TV Series Teaser Trailer – Trailer Talk

    Written by Megan Williams

The Game Awards 2021 took place three weeks ago and, aside from the awards, the event was an opportunity for video game related media to reveal their trailers for the first time. One of them was something that was already covered (‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’), but the other trailer was one that was revealed quite late into the event. Because of its timing (thanks to UK time zones), this was one that I missed until recently, and that is the teaser for the ‘Halo’ TV show.

Bungie’s Xbox exclusive is a game that I’ve always loved. However, due to never owning an Xbox, my memory of the franchise was playing the multiplayer mode with friends, an aspect that I enjoyed. Not only was it a lot of fun to play, but the visuals were interesting, and the combat made the game exciting. And, while ‘Halo’ has been adapted into films before, a TV series makes sense to fully showcase the story that the franchise tells. And, from the 1-minute teaser, the series looks incredible. We’re now in an era where shows can have the same type of budget as a movie, meaning they look fantastic. And it looks like Paramount have poured a lot of money into this series because the look of the world its presenting is amazing. Plus, Master Chief looks awesome!

Because of the huge world and characters that ‘Halo’ has created over time, a TV show makes perfect sense for the gaming franchise, and it’s made a brilliant first impression in its 1-minute teaser. The show will premiere on Paramount+ and I will definitely make sure I can check it out.

With the release of ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’, Marvel have fully embraced the next phase of films, which will revolve around the multiverse. And, after ‘Wandavision’, it makes sense that the next film to be released is Doctor Strange.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is the sequel to the 2016 film starring Benedict Cumberbatch and will see him reunite with Wanda to try and fix the multiverse.

While I didn’t enjoy ‘Doctor Strange’, Cumberbatch was the perfect casting for the lead role and it was visually incredible, resembling that of ‘Inception’. However, after watching ‘Wandavision’, ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ and even the animated show ‘What If?’, I am very interested in what the sequel has to offer, especially since it will revolve around the multiverse. Narratively, I hope this film also serves as a continuation to Wanda’s story after the end of ‘Wandavision’.

One thing is for sure: their reunion will definitely be interesting, considering their powers and past!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the sequel to Doctor Strange (2016) and the 28th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Jade Halley Bartlett and Michael Waldron, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, and Xochitl Gomez. In the film, Strange unleashes an unspeakable evil as he faces a friend-turned-enemy.
