    Clerks 3: Trailer Talk

With the ‘legacy’ sequels (as ‘Scream 5’ titled it) returning, it was only a matter of time before store clerks Dante and Randall joined the trend. ‘Clerks 3’ has been in production for a few years with director/writer Kevin Smith even teasing it back in 2014. But the wait is over, and the first trailer has been released.

After Randall (Jeff Anderson – Clerks, Clerks 2) suffers a heart attack, he realizes that his ultimate dream is to make a movie…specifically about his and his co-worker’s life at the Quick Stop convenience store. Sound familiar?

With a 16-year gap from ‘Clerks 2’, it’s great to see the original cast back together, including Jay and Silent Bob. Not only that but the humour looks to be just as strong as ever, plus the meta commentary will make for some fantastic gags. One at the end even comments on the alternative ending of ‘Clerks’ where Dante (Brian O’Halloran – Clerks, Clerks 2) was supposed to get shot. However, this looks to also be a commentary on not wasting one’s life, so there’s room for some heart-warming moments, just like the original film showed.

It’s been a long wait for the third entry in the ‘Clerks’ trilogy but, after seeing the trailer, it’s going to be worth the wait. The humour and fantastic chemistry of Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson is back and as strong as ever. Plus, the meta theme of the sequel means there’s room for some fantastic gags and commentary. The only question I have: Were they supposed to be there this time?

    Hocus Pocus 2: Trailer Talk

2 years ago, when my weekly articles focused on various Disney+ films/shows, I chose to review ‘Hocus Pocus’ for Halloween that year. While I had only seen it once as a child, I saw it as a perfect film for the October holiday and still do. Interestingly, the sequel had also been announced around that time, something I looked forward after watching the original as an adult. And the teaser trailer was revealed last Tuesday.

‘Hocus Pocus 2’ sees the Sanderson Sisters return to Salem, after the Black Flame Candle is accidently lit. Now it’s up to three high school students to stop them from wreaking havoc before dawn on All Hallows Eve.

The sequel will see Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy return as the mischievous sisters, and Doug Jones as the undead Billy Butcherson. Not only that but the producers of the original are returning for the sequel! The three leads look fantastic; despite the 30-year gap between films, it’s as if the gap never existed at all. The tone of the trailer also indicates that the film will carry a fun, goofy tone just like its predecessor.

After seeing and loving the original film, I am very excited for ‘Hocus Pocus 2’. The teaser serves as a re-introduction to the Sanderson Sisters and the original actresses look fantastic. The tone of the teaser also implies that the film will carry the same atmosphere as its predecessor. Overall, I can not wait to see the return of the mischievous witches!

‘Hocus Pocus 2’ will be flying to Disney+ on 30th September 2022.

    Black Adam: Trailer Talk

Dwayne Johnson stars as the titular character ‘Black Adam’ a DC Comics character. After being empowered with the almighty abilities of the Egyptian gods to then be imprisoned for 5,000 years, Black Adam is freed from his Earthly tomb, ready to exact his own form of justice on the modern world.

Like ‘Shazam’ a few years ago, this is another DC character that I am unfamiliar with. However, the film initially held my interest because of Dwayne Johnson; he’s an enjoyable actor and seems like a genuinely delightful person. Therefore, I will always support him.

But, furthermore, ‘Black Adam’ looks fantastic. It’s great to see Johnson finally join the comic book genre and portray an antihero-esque character. Considering his previous performances’, it looks like he could fit into this role very comfortably and make this a fun and enjoyable film.

‘Black Adam’ wasn’t a character I had heard of but, just like ‘Shazam’, I am definitely interested in this film. Plus, it’s great to see Dwayne Johnson join the comic book film genre and play a unique character in terms of where his morals lie.

Black Adam is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Produced by New Line Cinema, DC Films, Seven Bucks Productions, and FlynnPictureCo., and set for distribution by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is intended to be a spin-off from Shazam! (2019) and the 11th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, the film stars Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam / Black Adam alongside Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.

    The Munsters: Trailer Talk

This week continues the theme of spooky families returning. Last week focused on the teaser for the Wednesday Addams show and, this week, sees the article focusing on the Munster family.

‘The Munsters’ was a sitcom that was created in 1964 and focused on a family of classic monsters. The 2022 film is written and directed by Rob Zombie (House of 1000 Corpses, Devils Rejects) and sees the family of monsters move from Transylvania to the American suburbs.

While it’s no surprise that Rob Zombie has picked another spooky themed property, it is surprising to see him write and direct a PG-13 film compared to the rest of his gory and violent filmography. The teaser is only a minute long and purely serves to introduce the main cast: Herman Munster (Jeff Daniel Phillips – 3 From Hell, Westworld), Lily Munster (Sheri Moon Zombie – Devils Rejects, 31) and Grandpa Munster (Daniel Roebuck – 3 From Hell, Final Destination).

It’s clear from the teaser that Rob Zombie is a fan of The Munsters because the setting and characters look fantastic and completely screen accurate to the original show. Even as the teaser transfers the footage from black and white to colour, the announcement is reminiscent of that time.

Despite not liking a lot of Rob Zombie’s projects, I will always take interest in every one that he does, purely because the ideas are interesting. And this is no exception; this is the first time he’ll take on a family-friendly property and I’m very interested to find out if his talent can carry over to adapting this.

From the character appearances, it seems that Zombie is a fan of the original show which gives me more hope that this will be good, plus the cast look screen accurate which is fantastic to see. Hopefully, Zombie’s execution of The Munsters will deliver.

  • Wednesday: Trailer Talk

    Wednesday: Trailer Talk

Monday saw the start of Netflix’s Geeked Week, a week-long event where the streaming service announce their upcoming shows and films either through trailers or posters. Because of the number of trailers that have been released (both Netflix and non-streaming ones), Trailer Talk will focus on a different trailer from this event over the next couple of weeks.

The first one is a reveal trailer for ‘Wednesday’, the live action series focusing on Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family. This was a series that I knew nothing about but am definitely interested in. While I didn’t grow up with the films/show, I grew an appreciation for the unique gothic family later in life purely because of the visual aesthetic.

But my excitement for the Wednesday Addams show increases with the reveal of Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega. She looks brilliant as the character and has proved to be a fantastic horror actress, after ‘Scream 5’. Plus, the show is going to be directed by Tim Burton with music composed by Danny Elfman! If there were any show that suited this pair, it’s a show based around the Addams Family and this is a perfect match.

The surprise announcement of ‘Wednesday’ is one I welcome. The lead casting is perfect and the return team up of Tim Burton and Danny Elfman makes me very excited for what’s to come later this year.
