6 Directional Debuts Of 2018

3. Sorry to Bother You

Director: Boots Riley
The Coup lead rapper ‘Boots Riley’ made his directional debut with Sorry to bother you (2018) which
became a surprise summer hit and one of the best film of this year so far. Based on the issues like
capitalism and racism, Riley’s absurdist dark comedy film showed the ugly inside truth of the
cooperate jobs. You must have heard or seen many people who sold their souls to ascends the
cooperate ladder and that’s what Riley showed in the film inspired by his own past time working as a
telemarketer in California.

Along with great acting performances by Lakeith Stanfield, Danny Glover and Tessa Thompson, Sorry To Bother You is more of a victorious lap for Riley’s film career and for all black cast films.

BRWC is short for battleroyalewithcheese, which is a blog about films.
