The director of Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October also gave us what many consider a cult masterpiece. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the film follows a black ops team as they enter the Columbian jungles. They are then picked off one by one by an invisible extraterritorial hunter, who is here to hunt man like we hunt big-game. Soon, it’s just Arnie left and he must hatch a plan to kill the predator before it kills him too. But to do that he must become a predator himself.

This is arguably Arnie’s best film, and it’s certainly one of only a handful of his legitimately good ones. Predator is not without its issues. It’s certainly a product of the ‘80’s, and what was once awesome back then does have a tendency to be just silly now. But what works to the films advantage is that it comes off as a parody of ‘80’s action and slasher horror. Meanwhile, it became its own unique thing in the process. All the characters are memorable. The effects are still impressive. The predator looks incredible, even thirty-years on. The action is still great to watch. The story is really smart and really fun. That’s actually the best way to describe this film; smart and fun. It knew exactly what it needed to be and how to become it.

You can’t call yourself a fan of sci-fi, action or horror films if you haven’t seen this. It has never been held to the same stature as Alien and Aliens. But it is still seen as one of the best films to come out of the ‘80’s. I whole-heartedly agree. With many memorable moments and innumerable quotable lines, this is one film that will definitely stick around.
