The fun horror-comedy Clinger, directed by Michael Steves, creeps into theatres on October 23. We caught up with the film’s leading lady, Jennifer Laporte.
How did you wind up in Clinger, Jennifer?
I heard about the project while I was finishing up my senior year in high school, then read the script and loved it. I went through quite a few auditions before they told me that I had gotten the part!
How much of Fern is in Jennifer? How much of Jennifer is in Fern?
I definitely related to the perfectionistic aspect of the character at the time, and getting caught up in the idea of what a perfect relationship needed to be. However, Fern is a track runner, and I was not that in high school- I was dancing or doing school theatre productions! She’s resourceful and independent, and I really connected to that as well.
Have you ever been stalked or had an obsessive admirer? How much could you relate to Fern’s plight?
Actually, when I was in kindergarten, I remember that there was a boy who would always follow me around and absolutely freak out whenever I looked at him. My brother teased my incessantly, and I was so embarrassed! But nothing quite on Fern’s level, thank goodness.
What has Clinger done for your career?
I got to go to Slamdance for Clinger’s premiere, and it was so amazing to be in Park City during the festival time. I’ve gotten to work on my second feature “The Cold Descent”, which is also with Clinger Digital. More than anything, it was a wonderful learning opportunity, and it really solidified my love for film and my desire to keep working in film!
How will you be celebrating the release?
I’ll be in NYC for the release, and a bunch of my friends want to go and see it in theatres! October is a great time of year for it to be released, so I think it will be a spooky, fun time.
