This year promises to be a memorable one for comic book fans who love seeing their favorite characters emerge from the printed page and land on the big screen. Three major comic-based movies are premiering this year and the excitement is already building online. On May 1, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” hits the big screen. On July 17, “Ant-Man” premiers in theaters across the country. And, finally, the latest version of “Fantastic Four” is scheduled for August 7.

To celebrate this round of comic book movies, throw a theme party for all your friends with the following ideas:

Avengers: Age of Ultron

A great way to celebrate this movie premier is to host a costume party. You and your friends can either make your own costumes or find pre-made ones from a costume shop. No matter which option you choose, go all out and don’t forget the details. Not only will you need Iron Man’s helmet and Captain America’s shield, but you also will want the whole suit that is detailed from head to toe.

Then, buy or make Avengers-themed party food. Order some cheese pizzas and decorate them with green pepper slices and black olives to resemble The Hulk, or create a Captain America fruit tray with strawberries, blueberries and mozzarella cheese slices to look like his shield. To wash everything down, serve layered superhero cocktails with grenadine, blue curacao and vodka for more of Captain America. For an Iron Man cocktail, use the same layering effect except use grenadine, orange juice and vodka.

Ant-Man

To celebrate the release of “Ant-Man,” set up a superhero-themed trivia night. Start by organizing your questions, point values and how guests will answer the questions. If you need some help thinking of questions, visit the FunTrivia website. For example, it has questions such as “Where did Pym accept a residency?” (Oxford), and “In the Ultimate universe, what was Giant-Man’s original height maximum?” (59 feet 11 inches). Then, decide if you want your trivia game to function like “Jeopardy,” where guests have to be the first to buzz in to answer, or if you want everyone to write down their answer with a certain point value. Either way, make sure your guests have fun with the questions and don’t get too competitive.

Fantastic Four

To celebrate the premier of the newest “Fantastic Four,” host a movie marathon of the previous movies. This will refresh everyone’s memories about Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Thing. Since it’s a movie party, serve traditional move theater treats like popcorn, big boxes of movie candy and soda. Or, since the 2005 movie was based on a group of astronauts that get super powers after being exposed to radiation, serve freeze-dried foods and Screwdriver cocktails made with Tang and vodka.

With the growing popularity of superhero movies, you have an endless amount of options for celebrating and hosting a party. No matter what you choose, be sure to go big and have fun with your friends while bonding over something you all love.
