To celebrate the release of The Pyramid in cinemas tomorrow we are taking a look at some of the top curses featured on the big screen!

Thinner

Thinner is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. After being acquitted of vehicular manslaughter of an elderly gypsy woman, Billy Halleck is given the ‘thinner’ curse, which will kill him in a matter of weeks by causing him to rapidly lose weight and waste away.  This results in Billy being dragged into a hell of self-depression and malicious hatred that has dire consequences for him and his entire family…

The Ring

You can’t have a list of horror movie curses without mentioning The Ring, the 2002 American horror that left audiences in perpetual fear of their TVs for weeks after its release. The film features a demonic girl named Samara who exists from a cursed videotape that when watched leaves the viewer’s fate sealed with certain death exactly one week later.

The Woman In Black

The curse started with Jennet Humfrye, a mentally unstable woman who lost her only son in a tragic accident whilst he was under the care of her sister. In the end the grief was too much and she hung herself; all that remains is her vengeful spirit focused on putting others through the same misery she experienced. A sighting of the Woman in Black is always accompanied by the horrific suicide of a child living nearby.

The Evil Dead

In this film, five unlucky vacationers accidentally release a plague of demons from a cursed audiotape full of satanic incantations.  Stuck in a small cabin in the middle of a forest, one by one they are slowly possessed and forced to kill each other to survive.

Drag Me To Hell

Christine, a bank loan officer, refuses a poor gypsy woman a loan in order to impress her boss and gain a promotion. The gypsy woman isn’t pleased about losing her house and attacks Christine in a car park. In the process she puts a curse on Christine that will drag her to hell after three days of torment.

Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger is one of the most ubiquitous horror movie villains of all time and with good reason. Once Freddy picks you as a victim you are subject to awful nightmares of his making, a serious case of sleep deprivation and constant terror before he eventually brings you to his boiler room to kill you.

The Pyramid

The ancient wonders of the world have long cursed explorers who’ve dared to uncover their secrets.  But a team of U.S. archaeologists gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert. As they unlock the horrific secrets buried within, they realize they aren’t just trapped, they are being hunted.
