A Look At The Spider-Man Franchise, Merch, And More

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Everyone’s favorite web-slinger swung into your town or city this past spring with The Amazing Spider-Man and we definitely enjoyed it, even if we thought the action could have been better. Despite that misstep, the second Amazing Spider-Man ended up being the best film in the Spidey universe.

To that end, it’s not like it had that much competition. I think we can agree that most of us try to forget the previous trilogy, if only because the third Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movie was so terrible. While the second film in that trilogy definitely worked—and the first, if we’re being honest—it was marred so heavily by the closing film. But that’s OK, really, because director Marc Webb is doing great work with his reboot of the Spidey franchise.

In the second Amazing Spider-Man, our hero had his hands full fighting Electro, The Green Goblin, and The Rhino. With that kind of hero and villain celebrity presence, how can anyone resist the allure of this movie and its inevitable sequel? Just like any great marketing campaign, the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie was supported by countless other forms of collateral and entertainment. It delivered on its promise to be an epic blitz that reached all of us—but was your Spidey sense tingling?

Video Game

Play the Game

A few days before the big movie release (April 29th to be exact), Activision put out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. If you pre-order the title from Gamestop, you were able to take advantage of four in-game Spidey suits, each with special combat bonuses. The four suits—as shown on IGN—are the iron suit, the cosmic suit, the black suit and the noir suit. All of the gamers are resting their thumbs in preparation for the big day.

Comic

Remember the Comic Book?

Right around the same time of the movie and video game, Amazing Spider-Man, the comic book, will relaunch with Volume 3. Volume 2 ended in controversy after 700 issues with the death of Peter Parker. Fear not, people and superheroes have been known to rise from the dead in the comic book universe from time to time. Comics Alliance does a pretty good job dishing out the spoilage if you don’t know the details of Peter’s demise.

An Eight-Legged Epidemic

As if the movie, the video game, and the comic book were not enough, the web is flooded with tons of other Spider-Man related merchandise and pastimes. Here are just a few of the more interesting finds discovered in a not-so extensive search:

1) The Amazing Spider-Man Classic Cosmic Rug can be found at Super Hero Stuff. Featuring a retro appearance with vibrant colors, it measures 48 x 60 inches and just looks really cool.

2) Betfair has numerous comic-themed slot games outfitted with cinematic experiences that include a variety of characters from the DC and Marvel universes. And sure enough, there’s one specifically made for the Spidey fans out there. It’s a jackpot-heavy slot game, which has special Spider-Man and Web Features that give you chances to win extra prizes.

3) If you don’t want to spare any precious bucks, you can go to Marvelkids and play the free Ultimate Spider-Man: Iron Spider game. You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy this one.

Web

A Beautiful World

The writing is on the wall and this much is clear, Spider-Man continues to spin his web in every nook of society. He flies through the air and takes us along for the ride as he rids the city of crime and villainy. He spins his colorful webs of entertainment in many forms and comforts us with his presence. Old Spidey is amazing indeed.
