The prestigious Asian Film Awards (AFA), known as the “Asian Oscars”, is to be held on 27 March this year. The 8th AFA will be held for the first time in Macau, at the City of Dreams state-of-the-art Dancing Water Theatre.

This year’s award ceremony will see a total of 73 nominations from 13 countries and regions. 26 movies, selected from thousands of hopefuls, have been nominated across 14 award categories. The impressive list of nominees includes Oscar-nominated The Grandmaster as well as outstanding Asian features such as Stray Dogs and The Attorney.

Winners will be selected by a star-studded jury panel consisting of renowned industry professionals from the region. Heading the panel is the internationally acclaimed filmmaker, Peter Ho-Sun Chan, voted “The Most Valuable Filmmaker” for his track record of box office hits. Another celebrity juror is renowned martial artist Donnie Yen.



The 8th AFA is jointly organised by the powerhouses of Asian cinema, comprising of the AFA Academy and its constituent partners – Busan International Film Festival, Hong Kong Film Festival Society and Tokyo International Film Festival.

The organising committee of The AFA Academy is led Dr Wilfred Wong Ying-wai, who heads the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society and will chair the AFA Academy executive committee. He is joined by prominent figures in the Asian film industry that include Mr Lee Yong-kwan, Director of the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and Mr Yasushi Shiina, who holds the position as the Director General of the Tokyo International Film Festival and TIFFCOM market in Japan.
