By Max Chennault.

Hollywood has produced some unforgettable films that today we call classics.  These films never seem to lose their luster and make for memorable movie nights when watched with family and friends.  The following films and associated activities will make for a memorable evening.

Seven Samurai (1954)

This classic film is also a cult classic.  Showcasing Japan during the samurai period, this film lends itself to an evening of sushi and Japanese-inspired cocktails.  Invite your guests to wear Japanese-style clothes to enhance their enjoyment of the film!

Gone with the Wind (1939)

Naturally you’ll be serving mint juleps and Georgia peach pie for this viewing.  It’s a long film, so start the movie early—about 3 with a barbecue kickoff like the barbecue at Twelve Oaks where Rhett and Scarlett first meet.

Casablanca (1942)

Invite friends over in garb reminiscent of the Art Deco period.  This classic film may be a tear-jerker but it wins over an audience every times.  Invite a piano player and serve plenty of Moroccan-inspired tapas for snacks.  Find more films with Humphrey Bogart at TVLocal.

Gigi (1958)

This darling film starring Leslie Caron is perfect for a Paris-inspired theme.  Serve French foods like croissants and crepes and delight in the movie magic of this unforgettable musical.

Charade (1963)

Starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, this film is ideal for throwing a swinging sixties party.  Guests can sip sixties-inspired cocktails while following this suspenseful film that has the stars dodging in and out of danger.

The Outsiders (1983)

This movie may have launched the “brat pack,” but its classic theme of us against them is simply timeless.  A fifties-style party complete with greasers and socials and plenty of burgers and malts will complement this poignant film.

Star Wars (1977)

The film that started it all—this classic is always worth watching.  A Star Wars costume party is the only way to go with this one.  There is a lot of movie related merchandise so you can easily give away a Darth Vader t-shirt or mug to the best costume at the party.

Cleopatra (1963)

This film of ancient Rome and Egypt features Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor as the doomed couple.  Naturally, invite guests to sport their film-inspired costumes of Rome or Egypt and serve a Roman-style banquet fit for an Egyptian queen!

Jaws (1975)

The perfect film for a pool party, this classic will have your audience riveted even though they’ve all seen it before.  The film makes for a great theme with lots of fish-inspired décor and food.

Roman Holiday (1953)

For an Italian-inspired evening, this film is a delight.  It stars Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck as they tour around Rome together.  Serve plenty of pasta and Italian wine to complement this dramatic comedy about a runaway princess.

These are all classics of their era and continue to delight movie-watchers of all ages.  Throw a classic movie party and invite your family and friends to share in the movie magic!
