Who Needs Enemies: Review

By Annie Rooke

‘Who Needs Enemies’ is the dark and twisted new British ‘gangsta’ tale directed by first time writer/director Peter Stylianou. Notably the music works excellently with the plot as well as the dark cinematography which shows a grim side to London.

British newcomer Kris Johnson excels as the thug Chris. As he continuously screws people over throughout the story Johnson brings the unlikeable supporting character to life. Another mention would be to Michael Mckell as the intimidating Ian, the mysterious villain of the piece who requires no sympathy from the audience. This film is not one to see on a family day out…Parents have been advised!

With the style of chapters and flash forwards/flash backs that are commonly used in Tarantino films and the dark shooting of Guy Ritchie, ‘Who Needs Enemies’ proves that the British ‘gangsta’ genre never goes out of style.
