The popularity of online gambling is soaring, but novices need to swot up on the game before they rush in, to give themselves the best chance of winning. It sounds obvious, but make sure you understand the rules before you play poker. Bwin have a section on their website explaining the rules of Texas Hold’em, so that you can give yourself the best possible chance of winning.

We all know what happens when you lose- we’ve seen many a celebrity fall from grace after suffering a large loss at the hands of a Las Vegas blackjack dealer, or even their friends- P.Diddy recently lost one million dollars to his friend Rick Ross. Afterwards, P.Diddy posted a note on his Instagram that said of his million dollar loss: ‘It ain’t nothing’.

Then there was the time David Schwimmer lost a poker game to his Friends co-star Matthew Perry, in an episode of Celebrity Poker Showdown, a TV series where Hollywood stars like Ben Affleck, Carrie Fisher and Hank Azaria played live poker tournaments, with the prize money going to charity.

Another celebrity to lose money gambling is Ray Romano, who starred in the popular sitcom ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’. Romano has said that a storyline in the show about overcoming gambling problems was based on his real-life experiences. Today the comedian still competes in live poker tournaments but doesn’t play with his own money!

And it’s not just the boys- American soul singer Gladys Knight has recently admitted that she went through a stage of losing 45 thousand dollars a night, playing baccarat in Las Vegas. She may be the ’empress of soul’ but that is still a very, very large amount of money to lose on a regular basis!
