The Hard Men Of Comedy

They may be better known for their rough talking, hard fighting and dangerous living but even hard men need a break from time to time to take a walk on the lighter side, and it would seem that they’ve all had a crack at it.

To celebrate the DVD release of Run For Your Wife on the 16th September we’ve rounded up some of the hardest men of comedy.

Danny Dyer

Danny Dyer made his first foray into comedy with Human Traffic, and has been Britain’s favourite geezer since. After a stint as a football hooligan in The Football Factory and a Costa del Crime drug lord in The Business, he returned to his funny man roots in Run For Your Wife last year.

Vinnie Jones

After making a name for himself in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Gone in Sixty Seconds, Vinnie Jones obviously found the gangster life too much for him and turned to intimidating teenage girls in Shakespeare-influenced High School comedy She’s The Man.

Bruce Willis

Best known as gun-wielding John McClane in the Die Hard franchise, Bruce Willis showed his softer side as Rachel’s overly emotional boyfriend Paul in Friends, and even voiced characters in kids’ films Rugrats Go Wild and Over The Hedge. Willis will reprise the role of McClane in Die Hardest, but will always be known as the hard man with a heart.

Jason Statham

Another protégée of Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham blazed the way as one of Britain’s best known hardmen after his roles in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Revolver. Soon after, Statham lay down his weapons and tried out his comedy chops in Gnomeo and Juliet and Mean Machine.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Everyone’s favourite politician, Schwarezenegger started off as The Terminator, before clowning around in Kindergarten Cop and Jingle All the Way, and eventually having the last laugh as Governor of California. The Terminator 5 is set for release in 2015, so don’t worry, he’ll be back.

Run For Your Wife is out on DVD on the 16th September
