The 10 Biggest Summer Blockbusters Of 2011?

The summer blockbuster season is or at least should be when the best, big budgeted movies come out. Although the last few years it has been almost exclusive to remakes and sequels such as last summers Iron Man 2, The Karate Kid, The A-Team and of course Twilight to name a few on a very long list there were still a few original films that brought back some faith in the summer blockbuster. I’m looking at you Inception and The Expendables.

This got me thinking what can we look forward to next year. And yes I think they are almost all some kind of comic book or sequel of some kind. So in no order…

Thor
Continuing with setting up the all mighty Avengers movie. Thor gets the big Hollywood treatment for the first time with no less then Kenneth Branagh directing and Natalie Portman staring this may just be something special and come out of nowhere just like Iron Man did.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Captain Jack Sparrow is back again with the great Geoffrey Rush but without Bloom and original director Gore Verbinski .  Instead we have Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz and director Rob Marshall all trying to get to that fountain of youth. Hopefully we can get back to the fun of the original and not have to think as hard as we did with the third.

The Hangover 2

Yep the boys are back and this time in Thailand. This one was supposed to have Mel Gibson as the big cameo but he is crazy now or something (god bless you Mel, I still love you) so they have none other then ex president Bill Clinton. Hopefully this can be as funny the second time as it was the first.

Mission Impossible 4

Yeah I know, but this one is directed by Brad Bird ( The Iron Giant, The Incredibles) in his first live action movie. Maybe he can make Tom Cruise the bad ass he once was again.

Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds brings the somewhat unknown (here at least) comic book character to life in a big way. Promising big action and an epic sci-fi storyline that stays faithful to the comic and overseen by the man who gave us Casino Royale.   I hope this is amazing.
TRANSFORMERS 3

Yeah, 2 sucked hairy balls but they knew it so maybe just maybe this will bring us more of the best bits from the first. Just maybe with a little less shaky cam please. Damn it, there is also no really hot Megan Fox. Maybe I’m not looking forward to this now.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II

With the first part about to come out and getting the best reviews so far looks like old Harry is gonna go out on a bang. So that will surly cement its highest grossing film series of all time for some years yet and maybe even get old J.K to type out another Potter book? Me thinks so…

THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA

As well as Thor, Captain America starring Chris Evans will also be making his debut on the big screen.Set in WW2 and before all the others pre-avenger movies and staring agent smith Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull this could be some kind of fun.

COWBOYS AND ALIENS

Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau is directing the big screen adaptation of the comic book of the same name, which is going to blend together science fiction with a western. He’s attracted Harrison Ford to star (in his most interesting role in some time) opposite Daniel Craig, as the pair fight off an alien invasion in 1800s Arizona. How can this not be amazing? Trailer now please.
PRIEST

Priest tells the story of a warrior priest in a post apocalyptic world who goes out in search of his kidnapped niece. Kidnapped, of course, by VAMPIRES! Starring Paul Bettany this has one great trailer so lets hope it can live up to it.

So these are just a few films off the top of my head that we’ll all be spending our money on next summer.

Which one are you looking forward to most? And which are you not?
