Movies about casinos and, gambling in general, aren’t filmed that often. It is quite a sophisticated niche to make a great plot out of it, and in many cases, casino or any other form of gaming is used as a secondary story line.

Even though today online gambling overtakes regular casino gambling, most of the movies are still featuring Las-Vegas casinos or illegal gambling houses. Also, often such movies are associated with the mobsters and gangsters. Today we are going to explore best movies that either directly or indirectly related to gambling. The listed below is brought to you by ForexNewsNow website.

The Gambler (2014)

It is actually a reworked movie from the year 1974. The main character is actually quite an interesting person, he is a literature teacher who is having quite a big gambling problem. First he loses all of the the money he has. After that he borrows the funds from his girlfriend and, then, from his mother. He loses everything again and he is left with no choice – the only place where he can get more money to play is from a gang.

The story has a happy ending though. Finally the main character, played by Mark Wahlberg, eventually wins the money back and is able to settle his debts. Even though this movie is not full of action, it certainly shows the psychology of a gambler quite well.

21 (2008)

Another great movie that is focused on gambling is 21. It is also known for being based on a true story. Unlike gamblers that are just testing their luck or are simply getting addicted, this movie portrays a group of MIT students that plans to rob the casinos with their brains.

A professor sets up a team from his best students, trains them and prepares for the best and the most profitable project of their history – the Las Vegas robbery. After the group takes millions during the first try, they start to get greedy. And this is where things start to change. Apart from counting the cards, teamplay and various math-related activities, the casino security managers start to appear and the movie gets a completely different story-line. Now the main task is not to win millions but to stay alive.

Owning Mahowny (2003)

This is another movie based on a true story. It portrays a Canadian banker that has lost all of his funds in roulette and now does not really know what to do to get his money back. Well, he does know what to do – play more. The problem is that he doesn’t have any money left. However, this is not an issue for a banker is it? He begins stealing the funds from his customer’s’ account. Starting with only a little bit more than ten thousand dollars, he eventually takes out over ten million of dollars to pay for his gambling addiction.

Mahowny has his ups and downs and, eventually, his habit costs his job, reputation, fiancee and freedom. It is a great movie that shows that for gamblers it is not about losses or winnings, but about the process.
