The Best Film & Music Collaborations

film reviews | movies | features | BRWC Jay Z Is Made In America

We are celebrating the release of new music documentary MADE IN AMERICA out on 19 May – the creative collaboration between Academy Award-winning film director Ron Howard (Rush, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13) and hip–hop icon Jay Z  (Executive Producer). The film features an eclectic list of music heavyweights including: Jay Z, Kanye West, Rita Ora, Pearl Jam, Run-DMC, Santigold, Jill Scott, Janelle Monae, Skrillex, Odd Future, The Hives, Passion Pit, D’Angelo and Gary Clark Jr with rare interviews and performances.

Collaborations between Hollywood directors and prolific musicians tend to strike a cord with audiences around the world, and Made In America is no exception. We’ve seen this in classic film and music collaborations in the past – from Scorsese‘s music documentaries ‘Shine A Light’ on the Rolling Stones and ‘Living in the Material World’ on George Harrison, to Jonathan Demme’s (Silence of the Lambs) cult music doc ‘Stop Making Sense’ about Talking Heads to Spike Lee‘s ‘Bad 25’ on Michael Jackson.

We take a look back at the best filmmaker and musician collaborations over the past 30 years…
