    Bodies Bodies Bodies: Trailer Talk

A few weeks ago, one of the Trailer Talk articles focused on the upcoming A24 release ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, which portrays the multiverse in a unique way. However, A24 aren’t done with film releases this year; the first trailer for the horror comedy arrived last week.

‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ is the titular name of a mystery game that a group of late 20-year-olds decide to play. However, as the game goes on, it becomes all too real and the group’s trust in each other starts to wear thin as the night goes on.

From the second the trailer starts, it’s clear the film is a satire on murder mystery films, as well as films that have utilized this type of premise before. And, in that, it looks to be executing this fantastically. The film looks funny, with commentary on the current generation, but also looks like it could have some great tense moments.

‘This film has a simple premise, but a great one. And, with the cast and style of writing, this film looks like it could be a funny and enjoyable watch. I also hope it has an interesting murder mystery attached. Overall, I trust that A24 have chosen a great film to distribute, and I look forward to seeing it when it comes out this year.

  • Prehistoric Planet: Trailer Talk

    Prehistoric Planet: Trailer Talk

    Prehistoric Planet: Trailer Talk.

When I was little, I was obsessed with dinosaurs. As well as watching ‘Jurassic Park’ and visiting the dinosaur exhibit at London’s Natural History Museum numerous times, ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ was also consumed.

This was a BBC documentary series that only ran for one season but spawned numerous spin offs revolving around other prehistoric animals. However, while dinosaur research has advanced since then, shows based around dinosaurs that are portrayed in the same tone is scarce.

That is, until the announcement of ‘Prehistoric Planet’.

‘Prehistoric Planet’ is an Apple TV original show that is executive produced by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book), produced by the same team behind the fantastic documentary series ‘Planet Earth and narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

The above information means that the show will surely be fantastic. And it looks great; while some of the CGI is a little clunky, the visuals are a spectacle overall. Plus, with the research scientists have on dinosaurs now, compared to the 90’s, the appearances of the creatures themselves will be different. In ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’, the animals were purely reptilian, replicating that of ‘Jurassic Park’.

But, in the last couple of decades, it’s been discovered that dinosaurs were probably feathered, and had a closer relation to birds than reptiles. It’s a small detail, but one that really shows how different this will be compared to the 90’s show purely because of the information we have now. Plus, ‘Prehistoric Planet’ finally features the unique looking carnivore the Carnosaur!

With the team behind ‘Prehistoric Planet’, it’s sure to be a fantastic show and it’ll be interesting to see just how different the given information and narration will be compared to ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ purely due to the last 20 years of scientific research. I just wish it was available for a wider audience.

‘Prehistoric Planet’ is a five-part series and will be on Apple TV 23rd May 2022.

Thor: Love And Thunder – Trailer Talk

Yesterday saw the long-awaited trailer for the next ‘Thor’ film, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. With the film being released in the summer, it was about time it was shown.

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ sees Thor (Chris Hemsworth) join the Guardians of the Galaxy, after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, and continue his adventures with them.

Considering the tone of Thor’s last film, ‘Ragnarok’, it makes sense not only for him to join the Guardians but for the light hearted tone to continue. With Gamora now gone from the group, Thor has shown that he’s a suitable and funny replacement.

The trailer’s also great because it hardly shows much. So many trailers nowadays display too much of the film, but this goes the opposite way: its only purpose is to tell fans that Thor belongs in the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, I do wish its final reveal had been left as a surprise: Natalie Portman as a female Thor. She looks fantastic as the character but it should’ve stayed in the film as a surprise.

While the trailer for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ doesn’t show much of the film, it’s still enough to get fans excited for the next entry. And, while I wish the final reveal hadn’t been included, the trailer shows that Thor is a great fit for the Guardians, especially given the tone of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.

  • Marcel The Shell With Shoes On: Trailer Talk

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On: Trailer Talk

Distribution company A24 have been a complete marvel to me: they have become the first distribution company to carry a sign of good quality when it comes to their filmography. This is purely because they choose to release truly unique films that other studios wouldn’t touch, thus giving them a well deserved platform for moviegoers (when is the UK getting ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’?!). And their next release is no exception: ‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes On’.

‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes On’ is the feature length adaptation of the 2010 short film, and is a stop motion/ live action film about an anthropomorphic shell with shoes and a googly eye.

Upon seeing the thumbnail for the trailer on YouTube, of Marcel, I was unsure. Initially I thought the design looked a little freakish. However, after seeing the trailer, I have completely changed my opinion. The film carries a documentary visual style as Marcel decides to find his family and search for others like him, and it looks very cute. Because of Marcel’s innocent and child-like nature, the film can easily bring out the emotional side of the plot too.

Stop motion/ live action hybrids aren’t a medium I’ve seen in a long time and so I welcome it with open arms. The film looks adorable and touching but, like A24’s other films, it’s also unique, especially concerning the quirky designs of Marcel and the stop motion characters. I hope this is another gem from the amazing distribution company.

  • Let’s Talk About That Mid Credit Scene In Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Spoilers!)

Let’s Talk About That Mid Credit Scene In Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Spoilers!)

Let’s Talk About That Mid Credit Scene In ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’…(Contains Spoilers!)

The sequel to the fantastic ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ was released on the 1st April. Just like its predecessor, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ was a fantastic and enjoyable film. And, while my spoiler-free review is now up, this article will focus on a spoiler moment within the sequel. So, please note that this article will contain spoilers for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’

The scene this article will focus on is the mid credit scene that appeared at the end. While the army are cleaning up the parts of Dr Robotnik’s mech robot at the end of the film, one officer discovers documents that belong to the mad scientist that dates back 50 years. The documents revolve around a secret project that Robotnik was working on. The title? Project Shadow.

That’s right: Shadow the Hedgehog will be the next villain in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’.

Shadow the Hedgehog made his first appearance in 2001’s ‘Sonic Adventures 2’ and proved to be popular amongst fans. This popularity then gave him a role in 2003’s ‘Sonic Heroes’ and his own solo game in 2005, which was met with mixed reviews.

Personally, Shadow is one of my favourite characters in the franchise. While his portrayal has been mixed in the games, he carried a different persona compared to the more kid-friendly Sonic and Tails, and his design is cool too. And, while I found his solo game problematic, I couldn’t help but enjoy it. So, the introduction of a live action Shadow is really exciting.

And, just like the lead trio, Paramount have taken care to not disrupt Shadow’s design when translating it to the big screen. He looks fantastic as the camera pans to his prison chamber, slowly revealing the character. After watching and loving the two films, I have faith that Paramount and director Jeff Fowler will know the best way to portray this character onscreen.

However, the reveal didn’t give fans a glimpse of his voice and, so, my brain started wondering who would be best to voice the edgy hedgehog and have come up with three actors. These aren’t confirmed actors, just fan suggestions.

For Shadow, a slightly rougher voice would work very well (similar to Idris Elba’s voice for Knuckles), so the first two suggestions are Dwayne Johnson and John Cena. Both actors have very quickly gained a lot of love and their performances are always enjoyable. While Johnson has more experience with acting in family-orientated films, John Cena could give the hedgehog an edge that would be needed, especially after his role of Peacemaker in the solo series and ‘The Suicide Squad’. However, both actors can also perform as comedic characters. Again, Johnson has performed in a lot of family/kid friendly films, but John Cena made an appearance in ‘Fast & Furious 9’ as an over-the-top villain; maybe this type of performance could work with Shadow too?

But another actor who could give Shadow a great voice could be Jamie Foxx. This actor has just done ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’, reprising the role of Electrode, originally from ‘Amazing Spiderman 2’. While the latter film had its issues, I always thought Foxx’s iteration of Electrode had potential; it was just a shame that the overall execution was poor. But, given his fantastic, and slightly menacing, performance in ‘No Way Home’, his voice could work beautifully with Shadow and make him a scary villain compared to the zany behaviour of Jim Carrey’s Dr Robotnik.

Given how great the Sonic the Hedgehog films have been, I am excited about the introduction of Shadow the Hedgehog for the confirmed third film. I have faith that the film will give this character a fantastic portrayal given their track record so far and, while I have laid out a few suggestions, I am very interested to hear who would voice the character.
