Based on Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel of the same name, THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB follows four irrepressible retirees – Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) – who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands. Directed by Chris Columbus, the film is the latest to be produced through the Netflix and Amblin Entertainment partnership.

Vahid, an unassuming mechanic, has a chance encounter with Eghbal, a man he strongly suspects to be his former sadistic jailhouse captor. Panicked, Vahid gathers several former prisoners, all abused by that same captor, to try and confirm Eghbal’s identity. As the bickering group drives around Tehran with the captive, they must confront how far to take matters into their own hands with their presumed tormentor.

Set against modern-day Tokyo, RENTAL FAMILY follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection.

THE BALCONETTES, the second film from award-winning French actress Noémie Merlant, begins its limited North American theatrical run at the Landmark’s Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles from Friday, August 22 through Thursday, August 28. The film will also open at the IFC Center in New York City on August 22, followed by a sustained release in additional markets. In a sweltering Marseille heat wave, three roommates gleefully meddle in the lives of their neighbors from their balcony, until a late-night drink spirals into a bloody confrontation. The film features an ensemble cast toplined by Souheila Yacoub (DUNE: PART TWO, CLIMAX), Sanda Codreanu (MI IUBITA, MON AMOUR; Call My Agent), Noémie Merlant (PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE, TÁR), and Lucas Bravo (Emily in Paris, TICKET TO PARADISE).

Jasmin Gordon’s compelling drama The Courageous follows a rebellious mother living on the edge of poverty as she fights to keep her family together. Featuring a mesmerising performance by Ophélia Kolb (Call My Agent!), the film made its debut at the Toronto Film Festival before screening at a variety of festivals, including Rome and Dublin, and went on to win the Critics’ Award at the Zurich Film Festival. The Courageous will be released in UK and Ireland on 5th September.
