Based on a true story from the ongoing conflict between Ukraine-Russia, writer-director Franz Böhm’s ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS explores themes of human resilience, courage and sacrifice in the face of the cruel randomness of war. The story follows the harrowing journey of Ivan, a 17-year-old Ukrainian boy, and his father, who find themselves trapped in a makeshift bunker as war rages on around them. The short was nominated for Best International Film at the Oscar-qualifying Show Me Shorts Film Festival 2024 and has been nominated in the British Short Film category for the 2025 BAFTAs.

The film screened in Official Competition at the BFI London Film Festival, winning the Audience Award for Best Feature. Four Mothers will screen at the Dublin International Film Festival and Glasgow Film Festival before being released in UK and Irish cinemas on 4th April 2025
