Sonic The Hedgehog 3: Trailer Talk

After rumours flew around a couple of weeks regarding the trailer for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’, the first trailer for the anticipated sequel is here!

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ will see Sonic (Ben Schwartz – Parks & Recreation, Sonic the Hedgehog), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey – Sonic Game Franchise, The Loud House) and Knuckles (Idris Elba – Zootopia, Thor: Love & Thunder) come face-to-face with Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves- John Wick, Toy Story 4) for the first time on the big screen.

Shadow is my all-time favourite character from the franchise so, when he was revealed in the end credits scene for the second movie, I was excited but wary as to whether the upcoming film would treat him right. And it looks like they will do. Shadow, himself, looks incredible and the confirmation of Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow makes it a perfect match. My only concern was whether the film would go into Shadow’s tragic backstory and, if it did, would the story be softened at all. But, from the trailer, it looks like it won’t be because it shows Shadow interacting with the young daughter of his creator, Maria. Plus, the film is sure to include references and easter eggs from the video game ‘Sonic Adventure 2’.

The surprising aspect of the trailer is the return of Jim Carrey, who will reprise his role as Dr Robotnik. After the second film, Carrey announced that he was retiring from acting so it’s a nice surprise to see him return, and with the canonical look from the source material.

I’ve been extremely excited for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ ever since the reveal of Shadow, and the first trailer has me even more excited. Shadow looks and sounds incredible, and completely accurate to the games. And, from the trailer, it seems like the film will allow for some more serious scenes when focusing on him, something that I will be thankful for. While the trailer came out later than fans predicted, it’s been worth the wait.
