American Mileage: Review. By Richard Schertzer.

What might seem like a simple story of the talented vagabond turns into a road trip movie for the ages that leaves us smiling from ear to ear.

Cam Cole is a very talented musician from the UK who travels to America to experience the greater culture of the world and, evidently, he was in for a really big surprise. In fact, he was in for a few of them after meeting older blues musicians and getting a taste of the old-fashioned American blues.

The film is a smart and witty look at the life and struggles of a struggling musician and artist under the thumb of a genre that is so vast and ubiquitous.

The film itself might feel small in its scale but it proves to have a certain rugged style that makes it all the more likable in its execution. It may not be the most revolutionary in its style but it should still keep ardent blues fans engaged.

As the film goes on, it’s impossible to not root for Cole in his journey to experience different musical cultures and his humble willingness to learn from those that are more experienced than himself.

In conclusion, this movie is for the die-hard blues fans that want to really get a kick out of the music played and I understand the hype.
