It’s incredibly difficult not to love Drew Barrymore. See her on the television these days and she’s nothing but happy, a beacon of light. But of course, she has had her troubles too.
The star endured a rough adolescence in which she suffered from drug addiction and attempted suicides and today she’ll often speak out about the matter to ensure you get the help you need. It changed her life, and for anyone suffering from addiction, they should look to get further advice from alcohol and drug detox clinics and take inspiration from the Hollywood superstar.
But that’s far from all Drew Barrymore has taught us down the years and there are many lessons that can be learned from her…
Dreams can come true, but they may not be best for your life
Alluding to her early struggles in life, you can very much get the impression that while dreams can come true, they may not exactly be the best thing for your life at that stage. Drew landed the role of Gertie in ET back when she was just seven-years-old and while that was a dream come true, the pressures of fame led her into a downward spiral of addiction that took her an awfully long time to get out of.
She’d been experimenting with drugs from before she was 10-years-old and by 14 was in rehab.
Surround yourself with the right people
Drew went to rehab twice in her younger years and it was after the second time that valuable lessons were learned around surrounding yourself with the right people. It’s a lesson that can be taken into all walks of life and all circumstances and if you have the right support network around you, you will be ok. Just reach out to them.
Barrymore did that, and singer David Crosby took her in when she was just 14 as he believed she needed people around her that were committed to sobriety. It proved to be just the thing she needed.
Don’t get too involved too quickly!
Solid relationship advice here…don’t dive in too quickly.
Drew has been married three times, and all have been rather short-lived affairs, with here first marriage lasting a total of two months. Aged 19, she’d been dating bar owner Jeremy Thomas just six weeks before the wedding.
Set an example despite setbacks
Continuing on the wedding front, we’re looking at her divorce from Will Kopelman here. The pair were married for around four years and had two children together before their marriage broke down.
But rather than go through a messy divorce or sit and wallow, the pair decided they should still set a great example for their kids, and following the divorce Barrymore was spotted enjoying all sorts of exciting adventures. When life gets you down, pick yourself back up again!
