The Munsters: Trailer Talk

This week continues the theme of spooky families returning. Last week focused on the teaser for the Wednesday Addams show and, this week, sees the article focusing on the Munster family.

‘The Munsters’ was a sitcom that was created in 1964 and focused on a family of classic monsters. The 2022 film is written and directed by Rob Zombie (House of 1000 Corpses, Devils Rejects) and sees the family of monsters move from Transylvania to the American suburbs.

While it’s no surprise that Rob Zombie has picked another spooky themed property, it is surprising to see him write and direct a PG-13 film compared to the rest of his gory and violent filmography. The teaser is only a minute long and purely serves to introduce the main cast: Herman Munster (Jeff Daniel Phillips – 3 From Hell, Westworld), Lily Munster (Sheri Moon Zombie – Devils Rejects, 31) and Grandpa Munster (Daniel Roebuck – 3 From Hell, Final Destination).

It’s clear from the teaser that Rob Zombie is a fan of The Munsters because the setting and characters look fantastic and completely screen accurate to the original show. Even as the teaser transfers the footage from black and white to colour, the announcement is reminiscent of that time.

Despite not liking a lot of Rob Zombie’s projects, I will always take interest in every one that he does, purely because the ideas are interesting. And this is no exception; this is the first time he’ll take on a family-friendly property and I’m very interested to find out if his talent can carry over to adapting this.

From the character appearances, it seems that Zombie is a fan of the original show which gives me more hope that this will be good, plus the cast look screen accurate which is fantastic to see. Hopefully, Zombie’s execution of The Munsters will deliver.

Megan’s taste in films are interesting: her favourite films are ‘Space Jam’, Studio Ghibli’s ‘The Cat Returns’, as well as horror films ‘Saw’, ‘Drag Me To Hell’ and ‘Ju-On: The Grudge’. When she’s not watching films, she’ll be spending precious hours playing ‘Crash Bandicoot’.
