Micro Scalextric James Bond Set: No Time To Die

MICRO SCALEXTRIC

Something about James Bond evokes a sense of nostalgia. 007 himself and luxury cars have always been synonymous, and Bond is inseparable from a fast car. So of course it is a perfect candidate for working with the folks at Scalextric. The Micro Scalextric James Bond Set ‘No Time To Die’ is clearly aimed at children of all ages. And this set is pretty good.

It’s a compact little set. It’s Micro Scalextric, which means the entire device runs on AA batteries, so it’s for anyone old enough to play with toy cars.

You get two Micro Scalextric cars, the Aston Martin DB5 and Jaguar XF. These are beautifully crafted toy cars; they’re not as detailed as some of the larger cars available, however, they look good.

The windows are tinted and attached to the track by good magnetics. They are surprisingly heavy for a small toy car. But don’t underestimate them, they’ll dash across the track at super fast speeds.

The rails snap together easily (like a breeze). The total length of the track is over 4 metres, but you can configure it for different tracks and corners. You can even do a loop, which is fun.

The hand controls are designed to be comfortable for smaller hands; they limit the speed to such a degree that, combined with the car’s magnetic properties.

But it’s fun! The set won’t make you a secret agent, but it does let you whistle the famous theme song and reference various lines from the movie, often with a vague Scottish accent.

Fire up your favourite Bond movie, make this (very portable) racing game, and let the cars zip around the track until the battery runs out.
