Trailer Talk: Doctor Sleep

If you thought 2019 wasn’t getting enough Stephen King film adaptations with ‘Pet Semetary’ and ‘IT: Chapter 2’ then, don’t worry, because an adaptation of ‘The Shining’ sequel is also coming this year!

‘Doctor Sleep’ stars Ewan McGregor as an adult Danny Torrance, and is directed by Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Hush, Oculus). Set years after ‘The Shining’, Danny Torrance is now an adult, and meets a young girl who possesses similar powers to him. After he discovers that she is being targeted by a cult called The True Knot, he tries to protect her.

The creepy trailer gives us a glimpse of a new nightmare in a dizzying and haunting way. Ewan McGregor is a fantastic actor, and fits into the lead role perfectly. There’s also recreations of scenes from Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of ‘The Shining’, which are incredibly accurate and impressive.

The director is also a perfect fit for the film: Mike Flanagan is arguably a modern master of horror, from directing the unique film Hush to the terrifying Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House. He also directed another Stephen King adaptation (Gerald’s Game), so this isn’t the first time he’s delved into the nightmarish world King has created.

‘Doctor Sleep’ is in cinemas Halloween 2019.

Megan’s taste in films are interesting: her favourite films are ‘Space Jam’, Studio Ghibli’s ‘The Cat Returns’, as well as horror films ‘Saw’, ‘Drag Me To Hell’ and ‘Ju-On: The Grudge’. When she’s not watching films, she’ll be spending precious hours playing ‘Crash Bandicoot’.
