OfficialCharts.com can reveal that Bohemian Rhapsody is the biggest-selling film of 2019 so far, with more than 1.1 million copies sold on disc and download since its release on February 16.
The Queen biopic tops out the home entertainment release chart for the first quarter of the year, which counts all sales on disc and download from the beginning of 2019 up until March 30. Back in March we revealed the musical film sold more in its first four weeks than 2018’s biggest-seller The Greatest Showman did in its equivalent opening period.
In second place, Venom is the biggest comic book film of 2019 so far, with Tom Hardy’s masked Marvel anti-hero one of six superhero adventures in the Top 40 so far this year, including Avengers: Infinity War at 16 and Incredibles 2 at 23.
The British public clearly enjoy a singalong, with musical films taking four of the Top 10 placings; joining Bohemian Rhapsody is A Star Is Born (3), The Greatest Showman (5) and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (7). All of these films also peaked at Number 1 on the Official Film Chart; in total, eight of the Top 10 best-sellers of 2019 to date have reached the top spot.
Notably, last week’s Official Film Chart Number 1, Ralph Breaks The Internet, makes the Top 40 despite only registering its first week’s sales in the period.
