A cop without a case and a criminal without a code; the official trailer of the first Indian Netflix original series, Sacred Games, shows an intriguing world set in the dark underbelly of Mumbai, where politics, crime and passion come together in a deadly game. Sacred Games is based on Vikram Chandra’s critically acclaimed epic novel of the same name. The eight-episode thriller follows the riveting journey of Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan), a seasoned, cynical police officer, and Anjali Mathur (Radhika Apte), an intelligence officer, to the centre of a mysterious web woven the powerful criminal overlord, Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The plot twists and turns along the dark alleys of Mumbai, with Ganesh and Sartaj tightening their grip on each other and staking everything on victory, including the city itself. The trailer is a tantalizing glimpse into the world of glamour, passion, violence and revenge, which will be fully revealed on July 06 when Sacred Games premieres exclusively on Netflix worldwide. The series is directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane.
The film is the poignant debut feature from writer/director Deborah Haywood. As well as opening Critics’ Week at the 2017 Venice Film Festival, the film has secured nominations and awards at various festivals around the world since. PIN CUSHION, too, highlights how after Me Too and Time’s Up, female filmmaking is getting more traction, with this a very female-driven production, with Deborah writing and directing the film, Maggie Monteith as a producer, plus a female cinematographer, 1st assistant director, composer, co-editor, casting agent, and production designer. Supporting the film is Bird’s Eye View, with their Reclaim The Frame campaign. BEV have held numerous events around London, and the rest of the UK, and are focused on spotlighting female filmmakers.
Eureka Entertainment have announced the theatrical release of the charming and moving comedic drama Lucky, John Carroll Lynch’s directorial debut featuring Harry Dean Stanton (Cool Hand Luke; Alien; Paris, Texas; Repo Man) in one of his last starring roles. Lucky will be released in cinemas nationwide (UK & Ireland) and On Demand from 14 September 2018.
The engrossing and thought-provoking mystery thriller THE APPARITION is released in UK cinemas on 3rd August. A profound devout, she’s gathered an impressive following in the village and is torn between her faith and the many solicitations she receives. Confronted with opposing views from clergy members and sceptics, Jacques begins to uncover the hidden motivations and pressures at work and sees his beliefs system profoundly shaken to the core.
WHITNEY is the intimate, definitive account of the superstar’s life and career, authored by renowned Oscar®-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald. The only film officially supported by the late singer’s estate, it includes previously unreleased recordings, rare never-before-seen footage and live performances recorded by Houston at various stages of her life, as well as original studio recordings and acapellas of some of the late singer’s greatest hits. Because the filmmakers had access to vast archives of the Houston estate, the film also contains personal home movie footage that has never been seen publicly before, offering a rare glimpse of Whitney’s life behind-the-scenes as known only to her closest relatives, friends and collaborators. STUDIOCANAL and Independent Cinema Office are delighted to announce that, following its selection for Cannes Classics 2018 and its recent screening at the Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna, Jacques Rivette’s controversial French New Wave THE NUN (La religieuse) will return to UK cinemas for the first time since its original release on 27 July and will then make its UK Premiere on DVD/Blu-ray/EST on 17 September 2018.
