In Vincente Minnelli’s Oscar-nominated adaptation of Edward Streeter’s novel, Father of the Bride follows a quaint suburban dad (played by Spencer Tracy) as his comfortable life is disrupted when his daughter Kay (Elizabeth Taylor) announces her engagement. A comedy about a man who attempts to deal with the preparations leading up to Kay’s wedding, the film is set in an undeniably cosy, comfortable world. The witty set-pieces, played well by Tracy and Taylor, perfectly capture what a father’s love for his daughter means.
Toni Erdmann is released in cinemas on 3 February 2017.
