To Kill A Mockingbird (1962)

In Robert Mulligan’s 1962 adaptation of Harper Lee’s acclaimed bestseller, Gregory Peck takes on the role of Atticus Finch, the southern lawyer and hero of To Kill a Mockingbird. As father figures go, Finch is a respectable lawyer who stands up for the poor and oppressed, so much so that he is unable to shield his children from the harsh realities of the beleaguered South. Peck himself said that it was a role that defined his career, and his portrayal won him an Academy Award for Best Actor that year.
