Robin Williams stars as Daniel Hillard, a San Francisco voiceover artist and devoted father of three. After throwing a disastrous birthday party for his son, Daniel’s wife Miranda (Sally Field) ends up filing for a divorce. Hillard then takes it upon himself to adopt the identity of a Scottish lady, the titular Mrs. Doubtfire, dressing up as a female housekeeper in an attempt to see more of his kids. Williams won a Golden Globe for his performance, and even did interviews as his alter ego Mrs Doubtfire to promote the film.
