How To Watch Oscars Night Properly

film reviews | movies | features | BRWC The Academy Awards 2015 (Review)

It’s one of the biggest nights in any film buff’s calendar, but rather than just spectating on TV and making comments on Twitter by yourself, there’s a way to watch the Oscars properly. Many people throw or attend parties and have special theme nights to celebrate the occasion.

Here are just a few ways you can make your Oscars night pretty special

Prepare with A-List Invites

If there’s one thing that we all love about the Oscars it’s the glitz and glamour, so why not get in the mood and make your friends feel like stars before the event starts. Send out special invites to your Oscar themed party and make them feel like true VIPs. You can even buy a red carpet in advance to roll out for your guests arriving on the night!

Stock up on 5 Star Snacks

Every Oscars night should come with snacks to help you through the long awards ceremony. What better snack of choice than every film fan’s favourite – popcorn! Not only are there just the options of sweet or salted, but you can also get gourmet flavours like chilli popcorn, cookies and cream and even sour cream and chive popcorn to make your guests feel like they are A-list!

Don’t forget to get the supplies in for some dazzling drinks too! Get guests in the mood with some movie-themed cocktails which can be served alcoholic or non-alcoholic depending on your guests. For instance you could make the Grand Budapest Hotel Special, which contains 1.5 oz Bison Grass Vodka, 0.75 oz Amarazotti, 0.75 sweet Vermouth and 2 dashes of Orange Bitters, to give you that exotic European flavour, or opt for a non- alcoholic version which blends citrus tastes to create the same flavour without the hangover!

Play Oscar Bingo

One of the fun things everybody can do when the awards ceremony starts is have an Oscars bingo night. This involved each player having a set number of phrases or actions, such as ‘best actress winner cries during speech,’ or ‘host makes an inappropriate joke,’ on a card, and they must match off action by action like a bingo card. The winner is the player who manages to complete their bingo card first! If you’re all of age, why not turn this into a drinking game where players also have to take a shot whenever a phrase or action on their card happens?

Get a Selfie Booth

Everybody loves a good selfie, so much so that even Ellen got involved when she was hosting the Oscars a couple of years back, and managed to create one of the most famous selfies of all time, with some of Hollywood’s biggest rising stars of the generation. Why not try and recreate that magic with your very own selfie booth at your party? Create lasting memories of your Oscars night and make the evening that little bit more special by asking guests to come dressed as their favourite Oscars actor or actress. Whether they recreate an iconic frock or just dress like one of cinema’s classic idols, it’s always fun to dress up, and even more fun to have pictures to remember the evening by.

This is just a small selection of some of the ways you can make your Oscars night a truly special occasion, but there are plenty more things you can do to celebrate the Oscars properly. For instance if you have more time and resources, you could even transform your living room into an auditorium style setting, so your guests feel like they are actually at the ceremony!

Whatever you do this Oscars night, remember the golden rule of Hollywood and do it in style!
