The International Film Festival Rotterdam announced its programme today including the World Premiere of Martin Radich’s NORFOLK which will compete for the Hivos Tiger Award and is the only UK film in this year’s competition.
NORFOLK, the second feature from BAFTA-nominated writer/director Martin Radich (Crack Willow), is a haunting thriller about a reclusive father and son whose close relationship is threatened when the father’s violent past catches up with them.
Boasting an exciting European cast, the film stars Denis Ménochet (Inglourious Basterds, Robin Hood), Barry Keoghan (’71, Stay), Eileen Davies (Sightseers, Another Year), Sean Buckley (The Fifth Element, Les Misérables) and newcomer Goda Letkauskaite.
Set in Norfolk, amidst an idyllic, brooding landscape, an innocent teenage boy and his battle-weary father live a simple life. Days are spent hunting, fishing and daydreaming. Then out of nowhere, the father, a mercenary, is given a final deadly mission, one that threatens to destroy not just the target, but the love between a father and his son.
Writer/director Martin Radich was raised in Blackpool and studied at Edinburgh College of Art. As an award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer, he has made numerous short films including the BAFTA nominated In Memory of Dorothy Bennett; A Good Man is Hard to Find, winner of Best British Short at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the highly acclaimed Dog’s Mercury. His debut feature Crack Willow, a compelling portrait of one man’s struggle with death and loneliness premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival as ‘Best of the Fest’ and won the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature at the Washington DC Independent Film Festival.
