Joshua Lang hopped straight into his latest role, that of the title character in Bunnyman Massacre.
You’re playing somewhat of a horror icon yourself now. Growing up, who was your favorite movie monster?
I watched a lot of the horror films growing up but I have to say some my favorite movie monsters with gremlins I love the way they set traps in have something so grow test in evil could come from such a cute little package. Their potential for destruction is almost unmatched
Why do you think guys like Freddy, Jason, Michael are still so popular? Is their ‘costume’ – so to speak – part of the appeal, you think? I believe 1 of the reasons why those characters are still so popular is the way they were designed there’s still going to be stupid young kids infesting Jason Lake area as well as Michael Myers will always find people in the neighborhood who annoy him I think it’s the fact that fans enjoy it so the filmmakers keep making it it’s only when the fans stop showing their love does a monster really die.
How did you get involved in the Bunnyman series?
Strangely enough to respond to a Craigslist ad looking for a set photographer for a film. Apparently Carl [Lindbergh] liked what I wrote in my response and when he called me I easily talked my way into a production assistant role upon showing up to set he quickly realized I had many more uses than simply as some PA I believe it with his love of film and his epic knowledge of video game Nerdiness that really helped us bond
Are you a filmmaker first, or actor first? I see that you dabble in both.
I got my start acting in small college musicals and when I was in the military I got very big into photography as well as continuing my theatre work. Soon my time with the military came to an end I realized I should combine my two biggest passions Photography in theater and began going to film school. I quickly realized how difficult the acting game is in Southern California so I decided that if i were to become more comfortable in front of the camera I would have become more comfortable on set, the best way of which is as a crew member and if given the opportunity I love to jump on screen. As a filmmaker, there’s a plethora of information that you need to know in order to be defective onset I found quickly that all aspects of film add into each other the more you direct it will help you become a better actor the more you act that will make you a better director the more u bet it will make you a better director of photography amor you produce will make you a better filmmaker overall.
The Bunnyman films don’t hold back. In the case of Bunnyman Massacre, the film opens with the title character taking down a busload of kids. Has there been any backlash?
Not as of yet – but the movie is not to be taken seriously; there are much worse things inside the Bible.
Peter Weller use to complain about being stuck in that Robocop suit – being that it was so uncomfortable. How is it in the bunny suit?
The biggest thing with the bunny suit is its very hot Carl tends to shoot these movies during the middle of the summer which is not necessarily the best times for me, I tend to lose a few pounds each time I make 1 of these movies. Also bunnymans head makes difficult to breathe as well as in very much limits your peripheral vision and I sometimes find myself tripping over things.
Do you envision the Bunnyman franchise going on and on?
That is totally up to the fans as long as the fans keep being hungry for more bunnyman I’m pretty sure Carl will spend the time and energy to keep bunnyman knee deep in victims. I know this for now, there is a third one in the works and looking forward to coming out sometime in 2016. You can look for the Bunnyman 3 teaser trailer to come out around the time of the Bunnyman Massacre DVD release in mid-August 2014.
