Critically acclaimed and internationally beloved powerhouse actor Michael Rooker dominates the fan favorite role of Yondu Udonta in Marvel and Disney’s summer blockbuster GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY alongside Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper in theaters August 1st. The skillful blue skinned archman, Udonta (Rooker) and his Zatoan tribe encounter a young Star Lord (Chris Pratt) whom they help to raise before teaming up with him and the rest of the Guardians years later in battle. Most recently Rooker starred opposite Norman Reedus on AMC’s wildly sensational series THE WALKING DEAD as Merle.
Versatile in his craft, Rooker’s first rave reviews came after his feature debut with the chilling portrayal of Henry in the suspenseful thriller HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER earning him an Independent Spirit Award nomination. His budding career took off instantly earning him back to back starring roles on the silver screen in MISSISSIPPI BURNING, DAYS OF THUNDER with Tom Cruise, JFK opposite Kevin Costner, CLIFFHANGER alongside Sylvester Stalone, TOMBSTONE, ROSEWOOD, MALL RATS, THE BONE COLLECTOR and the list continues.
Originally from Jasper, AL Rooker moved to Chicago at 13 with his mother and five sisters. He excelled as a teen in sports and award winning life guard only diving into acting when decided to audition for the Goodman School of Drama after college. He went to be engulfed in Chicago Theater and a few off-Broadway productions in New York.
When he’s not on screen, Rooker spends his time with wife, Margot, two daughters, Lynn and Gillian, and granddaughter. He enjoys the martial art of Aikido, riding his Harley, and going to the shooting range.
