A unique pop up Bollywood event The Best of Bollywood Live! with film and live music will take place in the heart of the Gujarati community in Grangetown on Saturday 22 March at 7pm.
As part of the WOW Film Festival 2014 and in conjunction with the WOW Women’s Film Club, the Bollywood Brass Band will present a joyful celebration of the best of Indian film in the year that marks 100 years of Bollywood. Four funky drummers and six hot horns will bring to life a selection of the most iconic Bollywood scenes, driven by the beat of the dhol drum.
Grangetown’s Gujarati community will offer a warm welcome at the Samaj Community Centre and a delicious Gujarati meal is included in the ticket price.
Rabab Ghazoul, who runs the WOW Women’s Film Club, says:
“This is the next natural step for the Women’s Film Club. Women from diverse communities across Cardiff have been coming to our unique events at Chapter for years. Now it’s time to take our events into those communities. This is the first of several exciting pop-up events for all the family, bringing our Film Club, Chapter and host community audiences all together under one Bollywood-style roof!”
One of the Bollywood Brass Band dancers who will be performing on the night is Sita Thomas from Tenby. Sita, who describes herself as “half Indian, half Welsh”, is a trained Choreographer, Movement Director and performer and says:
“I’m delighted to be back in Wales performing where I grew up and where my passion for dance began. The last time I performed here with the Bollywood Brass Band at the Welsh Proms we had people dancing in the aisles, I hope everyone comes and joins us this time!”
